My pleasure :nice: Me as well !

Hmm, well... I think a little disappointed by this one. Probably because here Nobuteru Yuki speaks mainly about drawing/drawers issues, and not character design issues... Thanks anyway :nice:
So there is also this page. I don't know the subject, but I can read "FF7" and "RPG", so this should be probably interesting... :
(Sorry but my software was a bit confused with this page , so it was necessary for me to separate clearly the lines)

Re: Seiken Densetsu 3 Artbook scans
Not really sure how illuminating it is, but here's his comment:
Well, this "Seiken Densetsu" title is one that resonated especially strongly with me. Obviously, there's the fact that it was my first job in the consumer-related field, but apart from that, putting it a bit strongly, it wouldn't be be an exaggeration to also say that my lifestyle changed after "Seiken". Now I was someone who had "gaming in his life". Until then, games had been nothing more than one of several fields I worked in as an illustrator. I'd cast sidelong glances at games like "FF" and "Dragon Quest", thinking things like "Hmm, this looks kind of interesting, but I don't know...". However, after playing "Seiken" as my first RPG, I grew fond of games to the extent that they became an indispensable part of my life. Of course, that came with many negatives, such as them taking up my time, tiring out my eyes, and making me weary after struggling with connector cables, but still, I feel my life would have been much poorer without "Tactics Ogre", "Resident Evil", and many more. I also realized something after playing many games, including these; a good game (at least any game I'll consider "good") reflects the personality of its director. This goes for "Seiken" too.
People have a tendency to argue that Square's games often have the same feel, but I don't agree with that. "FF7" and "Saga Frontier" feel very different. But "Seiken" and "Saga Fronter", both directed by Mr. Ishii, have the same feel, even if their systems are different. I can't help liking Mr. Ishii's style. After all, "Seiken" is the only game whose ending has brought tears to my eyes. That's one more reason it meant a lot to me to be able to work with Mr. Ishii on "Seiken".

Hi Gwendal,
Okay thanks for this one. As for me I find what is said here very interesting
Now all that remains to translate are the comics at the end of the artbook. But it will be hard to use my software that detect Japanese characters on these comics since the characters are hand-written. I will need a lot of time I guess

No problem! As for the comics, I don't really mind starting on them and just looking stuff up the old-fashioned way if I have to.

Oh really ?
That's very kind to you :happy5:
As I feared, my software is completely lost with hand-made characters...
So here is the first page of the comics :

Re: Seiken Densetsu 3 Artbook scans
Here it is. There's a few things that are a bit hard to tell due to the handwriting, but at least most of it should make sense.
1. A heavenly (?) voice: It's time to eat!
Everyone: COMING!
2.Hawk: ...this is all I'm getting?
3. Girls: Let's tuck in!
4. Yahoo! Haven'th sheen you in a while! [Yes, she speaks with an obnoxious lisp]
5. Lately, I've been sthudying theology with Heath. [Can't make sense of the last word, sorry]
6. The priest gets mad at me when I use my cape to clean the floor. But I won't give up.
7. Actually, Heath has just been reading the books to me. Yesterday he read "The Litthle One's Box" to me, and I cried a lot. [Not 100% sure about that title]
8. Just like Heath's clothing.
9. The mistake-filled...
10. "The Memory of Seiken Densetsu 3"
11. The first game I ever played on the so-called "Family Computer" was somehow this one, SD3. The only thing I can remember when I think back on it is "ah, I did blue things" when I played it. [Probably some kind of idiom, but I couldn't find much]
Maybe because I played it in a very un-calculating way...(strained smile)
(Person on the left is "my friend M.")
12. "Why do you use those characters? That's a bit unusual..."
13. "I like magic, and she's sexy, so I chose Angela. (Heart)
14. "I like kids, and she's cute, so I chose Carlie."
15. "I can't stand dumb muscleheads, and he's a good guy, so I chose Hawk. (Heart)"
16. ...and so I had a party without a single dummy in it.
17. "You should consider which characters to use carefully and grow them properly. If you don't, you'll run into problems later on..."
18. My advisor Yuuki-sensei
19. "But it's not like I won't be able to finish the game or anything, right?"
20. "Well, as long as I don't mess up, it'll be fine, right?"
21. "I can always just level up a bit..."

Ahh this is so cool, thank you so much for scanning this!! I'm still playing a translated rom of this with my boyfriend, and I've really wanted to try drawing some of the characters. And looking for art for it has been a pain, so this helps so so much, thank you!

Re: Seiken Densetsu 3 Artbook scans
Oh, I know about Heath, I meant the next word after "Heath". Maybe I should have worded that more clearly...
Anyway, nice job with the editing! Here's the next page. I might be a little off with some of the details here, since the handwriting and extremely informal style make things a bit unclear at times, but this should be the general gist of it. I also tried to post this yesterday, but I kept getting errors for some reason.

I also tried to post this yesterday, but I kept getting errors for some reason.
1. Well, since I have a thing for feet and all, I guess it was kind of inevitable I'd end up choosing this kind of girl...
2. At the time, I understood very well that I needed to "amass experience points", no matter how annoying it was, and why it was a good idea to "plan out" how to develop my characters. But I also had a character called HAWK...(sweatdrops)
Angela and Carlie were fine, and they were useful as long as I developed them properly. But HAWK just wasn't useful at all. The God-Beast fights turned out like the panels on the right every time. Honestly, he turned out be a total weakling, with nothing but his face going for him. He was absolutely worthless in battle. Still, since he was the main character, the final battle was the ONE SINGLE place where his magic allowed me to win after a long, long time, since I couldn't use Angela with her vastly superior attack and defense stats. Whew...(sweatdrops)
By the way, I went fully with the "Light" side class changes for these characters. Even then, Carlie was really cute. (hearts)
So, Yuuki-sensei will do the drawings this time. It's all a bit confusing...
3. I really like these boots, drawn so nicely by Yuuki-sensei. I think the "hundredfold" loose socks are cute.
4. I like pod-[something] on the monsters. I want a pet like that too. Then Booskaboo would be next. "Mispolm" was the most annoying boss character.
5. These faces right here were so annoying.
6. Boss fight starts
7. He's already knocked out
8. "Yeah!"
9. "Let's do it!"
10. Still the first half of the boss fight
11. "Heey, Hawk's dead again."
12. "Nevermind that, it's not like he's doing us any good in the first place."
13. *huff, huff*
14. *pant, pant*
15. An hour and a half later...
16."WE DID IT!!"
17. "YOU WERE DEAD THE WHOLE TIME!! *KICK!* "Aah..."
18. Hawk
19. Ugh, how awful.
20. All that said, I do like Hawk. Sorry. (But you're still useless...) (sweatdrop)

Unfortunately, it looks like you've linked the finished comic twice, so you need to post the correct link before I can get started on the next page.

Re: Seiken Densetsu 3 Artbook scans
Here's the translation. In a way, it is kind of fun to work with handwriting, but it takes some getting used to.
1. So, what do you think? That should be more or less a perfect collection of all the art I drew for "Seiken".
2. You're just scared your shtuff is going away, gramps, so you put it out there in a hurry, am I right? [A little unsure about this one, but I think it's something like that]
3. KYYAAAGGHH!!
4. Carlie, stop saying things like that, will you? People will get the wrong idea.
5. Ye, yeth!
6. No, really. I'm sure there's lots of people who think that way, but it's not the case at all.
7. So in actual fact, why am I doing this "Seiken"art compilation now?
8. Well, there are various reasons, but the most important is...
9. Color ink discoloration!*
10. Yes, this thing.
11. Carlie's beautiful skin, it's...!
[Maybe it's just me being slow, but I can't find a number 12 anywhere?]
13. Of course, I knew this could be an issue when I chose to use color ink for my artwork, but it still came as a bit of a shock once I saw it with my own eyes.
14. There, there, it'll be okay.
15. This ith awful!
16. *The color fades away

Here it is. Not any more interesting, I'm afraid, but oh well. Keep up the good work with the edits and uploads anyway!
*Not 100% sure about this exact term
1. The color will keep fading away, so...what do to about this, hmmmm...
2. *shuffle shuffle*
3. And I've been putting off any talk about doing an art book...hm...
4. What're you gonna do? What're you gonna do?
5. Ah, I know how to do it now.
6. Yes, that's it! If I do it as a doujin, I can do whatever I like, and...
7. Really? Really?
8. *POP*
9. Yes, if I make it a doujin, I can use spot color*, have a hardcover book, decorate it with gold leaf, anything I want!
10, Seriouthly? You can bring back Carlie's beautiful skin with a nice glossy book?
11. Ugh
12. Well, that's...
13. Mana Sword

Re: Seiken Densetsu 3 Artbook scans
Sorry for taking a while, but here it is. I strugged a bit more with the handwriting this time around, but hopefully it gets the main point across.
1. However, in actual fact...
2. It might not be completely out of the question to restore the color ink using 4-color printing as seen in trade publications, hmm...
3. Of course, you'd probably want to touch up those illustrations a bit in a proper art compilation, anyway. So they should first be changed to 4-color printing, and...
4. *Turn*
5. At any rate, Seiken has a lot of [something], so it might make for a strangely big publication... [Sorry about this one, but I had a really hard time with the handwriting here]
6. But still, that's okay.
7. I want to bring all my Seiken things together in a single volume filled with nothing else!!!
8. So, as you can see, I had all kinds of reasons for making this art compilation.
9. And the most important thing definitely is ______.

Re: Seiken Densetsu 3 Artbook scans
And here we are, looks like the last of this comic series, at least. Even if it's frustrating at times, I have to say it's actually kind of fun to work with handwriting sometimes, more than I thought it'd be.
1. I love "Seiken"!!! ...that's why.
2. The thing is, I'd never played an RPG before "Seiken"...
3. ...which effectively means that it's thanks to this game I came across "Tactics Ogre" and "Resident Evil".
4. I really enjoyed them. I went through every nook and cranny of "RE2" too, and it was such a good game.
5. Heey...you really think "RH" and "TO" are that good, huh?
6. *asks earnestly*
7. Absolutely. They're the best.
8. I couldn't even imagine my life without "RH" and "TO" now.
9. Huh...ith that right...?
10. Yes, yes...
11. That's really how you feel?
12. Regrettably, I wasn't involved in the next "Seiken", but...[Or could also be "won't be involved", don't remember when this was first published?]
13. ...I am doing design work on other Square titles, so please do take a look at those too, and you might see some of the same qualities found in "Seiken".
14. Goodbye, then.
15. The end

Re: Seiken Densetsu 3 Artbook scans
First, my apologies for remaining silent about this for a long time.
During mid-July and August, I was busy with my big report for school (more than 50 pages ). Fortunately I took a little vacations anyway.
And just now I am busy with my final exams (yeah I have final exams in Fall season, looks a bit odd, isn' it ?).
Of course I will go on with the scan-editing (and thanks again for your help), but not right now... You know, the 2 or 3 pages which remain to be edited are very crowd of handwritten texts and are hardly readable. They will be hard to edit, but I will do it.
