Re: Conventions
While I would actually love to attend a convention, I've never had the chance. Hell, if I did go and met someone like, say, Troy Baker, I'd freeze up and stammer like a fool. So it's probably better I don't subject anyone to that. XD

Re: Conventions
AnimeCentral happens about 45 minutes from my house and I've always wanted to go. However, I don't cosplay or buy much merch so I dunno if I would have much fun. I still want to check out an anime convention someday...it's like on my bucket list n stuff.

Re: Conventions
I've been to Otakon a few times, and to Sakura-Con and Anime Expo in 2009, and I might go back to Otakon this year if I can afford it. I don't really watch a lot of anime or buy merchandise anymore, so I'm kind of just interested in meeting up with friends and maybe checking out the Artist Alley or something. It's worth going at least once for the whole experience, I'd say.

Re: Conventions
I live maybe 15 minutes as the bird flies from the Baltimore Convention Center, but it equals a 45 minute drive due to traffic. Gonna do my level best to host Stitched for any Otakon goings this year!

I very almost met Troy Baker. Ahhhh. I had to send my sister to acquire his signature because I was running my booth in Artist Alley, and the line was hours long. I had her get my fan art of Yuri Lowell signed. She succeeded, but she said Troy Baker wanted a copy of my art. She said that he said if he had time, he would come to my booth to meet me.
I was like *spastic fangirl flail* all night expecting Troy Baker to pop up out of nowhere. He never did, which I don't blame him for, because every time a celeb walks around everybody jumps on him. But it was a good thing. Because I would have goofed all over everything, much like you described.
I am not a person who generally gets into celebrities. I never go to the signings, really. But Troy Baker eeeeee I think the only other person I'd do that for is Nathan Fillion.

Re: Conventions
I've been going to conventions for something like 12 years now? D: I feel so old! lol
These days, I mainly go because I staff them. My husband and his friend do several anime conventions and I usually tag along, run the cosplay departments or have a table in artist alley. I used to go to mainly hang out with friends and cosplay, but I'm not as big into cosplay anymore. I do still go to them for the social-gathering aspect.
I'd love to go to Otakon again. I haven't went since 2009. It's just hard for me to request off for conventions with my current job. I usually try to limit my requests for once every couple of months.

Re: Conventions
Had you met Troy, Glance, I would have been so jealous. XD
I'm not one for celebrities myself, but he's freakin' Yuri Lowell. Troy is my absolute favorite VA, which means I downloaded the RE6 demo just to hear him because I had no intention on buying the game. So, yeah, I'd be falling all over myself if I met him. However, with me being out in the sticks, it'd be too much effort to find a con to go to that's even remotely near me.

Re: Conventions
^ It's ok I love Troy Baker something fierce too. I felt so conflicted since I dont' really like him as Snow XD
I like conventions if I go with other people or if there's something I find really important. I've had spotty attendance with my hometown con mainly to see certain actors (since Vancouver gets a lot of people from Ocean dubs ANDYAYGUNDAM) so yeahhh. I also got to meet Takahata101 which turned me into a puddle of fangiddy goo. Generally if I go I prefer to go in cosplay since I really like making costumes but maaaaaaan does it take a lot of time.
I don't know if I'm going to go this year. I like hunting for merch but generally most series that I get into are either too old or not popular enough to get merchandised and sold outside Japan which is super lame.

Re: Conventions
I met Richard Epcar at Otakon in 2008. In the process I lost all verbal communication ability and thoroughly made a butt of myself, but it was worth it 'cause he was really nice and I got his autograph annnnd you can totally see how flustered I was in this picture:
... my face was as red as my sweatshirt, jeez.

Re: Conventions
Aww, that's a nice picture, Stitch!
I've never had the chance to go to a con, living out in the middle of nowhere kinda does that to you. I do hope to go to one someday, just for the experience. I honestly have no idea what I'd do if I met a VA, probably say something stupid. XD

Re: Conventions
I go to two or three cons a year (Katsucon, Animazement, and AUSA and one day for Escapist Expo). It's more of a social thing for me with occasional bits of cosplay. I've met some pretty amazing and talented folks at cons, so I definitely say go for it if you haven't been to one.

Re: Conventions
I like going to conventions. I've gone to Ohayocon for the past...three years now? I always end up spending way more money than I intend to...But this past Ohayocon I met the three main voice actors to Evangelion: Spike Spencer, Tiffany Grant, and Amanda Winn-Lee. It was cool, but I think it kind of steered me away from meeting voice actors again. I just sort of...got a bit disillusioned. Well, mostly because I didn't really care much for Amanda Winn-Lee as a person...But Tiffany Grant was really cool! Oh, and there were three Xenosaga cosplayers there, which was awweeessome.

Re: Conventions
My thing with meeting famous people at conventions is similarly black and white. The Mariott Hunt Valley inn is home to one of the biggest Star Trek conventions in the states, I think, and I got to meet some of the cast members from Babylon 5 in 2003ish. On the stellar side, I got a hug from Bruce Boxleitener! On the not so stellar side, I got creeped on by the guy who played Garibaldi, which made me really upset because he played as one of my favorute xharacters ever, and he was antagonistic and grumpy toward fans when the B5 people did their panel.
I used to go to Balticon religiously because my dad would always do the art show and I started doing it once I got older, too. Never made a whole lot of money and one time, I got scolded by the artist guest of honor for presenting drawings I'd done on lined paper (dad got scolded for not being able to afford to send me to "real" art school). I got the chance to meet Peter Beagle (the guy who wrote The Last Unicorn) before he got rediscovered by the anime fangirl crowd and it's one of my most fond convention memories. Since no one really seemed to know who he was, I got a chance to talk with him for a while and he kept looking at me (though not in the creepy way) and I ended up turtleshelling a couple of times. On the bad end, I met my favorite artist from Sandman and he was just sour about everything because I couldn't afford to buy anything off his table. It's always a mix.

Re: Conventions
I've seen a lot of not so nice things about Amanda Winn-Lee when people talk about her. It kind of makes me a little sad because I like Yukiko (yes, I'm one of the few who don't find her boring...) This is what worries me about ever meeting VAs because they may not live up to what you think of them.

Psh, I'd rather pay money for one of your drawings on lined paper than something on canvas from some dude who went to "real" art school. :P (And btw, even my elitist jerk of an art teacher at not-real art school in college said something I agree with, i.e. that a "real" artist can make awesome stuff out of any materials anywhere, and you don't need a lot of expensive supplies and a studio to do art. SO THERE. :PPP ) Lined paper is best paper.
I haven't had any particularly negative convention experiences myself, but I've heard some horror stories. D:

Re: Conventions
I've entertained the idea of getting a table at an artist alley at a con, but I rarely finish my drawings and it seems like too much work (and you miss out on events going on at the con itself). :S

I didn't realize until afterwards that I had actually taken a picture of the same Albedo and Jr. while at Ohayocon earlier this year...>.>;
But they didn't seem to remember either, so it's all good. XD
