    Ys Serie Empty Ys Serie

Post by HikariKuragari Mon Dec 24, 2012 12:35 pm

Well since there is a few fans of Ys around, I thought ... why not start a thread about it ? Not that it have this deep of a story since it's like more of an action adventure game. But at the same time there is one considering Adol live aventure from country to country, cleaning them from evil woo~ (Not to mention he's pretty ! =))

So like who are fans here and what do you like the most about those games ?

For me it's ... The gameplay and mostly the boss that make me curse a lot, but that are AMAZING xD. And of course Adol who is also amazing, yet in the games his voice is always replaced by a narrator stating his actions xD... (well voice or text, you get it). I heard a jp drama cd though where he just tell the narrator politly to stop talking cause he can't focus or something haha. That was hilarious ! And of course, the music is also amazing, I often listen to some music of it in background cause I can't resist!

I have not played every Ys out there, but I am batshit crazy about Ys IV and V. Ark of Napishtim was pretty cool too though I didn't play Ys 7 either. The story isn't exactly deep but it still gets the job done. Acting can be a bit spotty too, especially in English, but the combat and difficulty are so old school ILOVEIT. XD Also the music is incredible really...damn son, Mask of the Sun <3
Never cared too much about the art or designs. They look nice don't get me wrong, but the styles are...I dunno, a little run-of-the-mill?

There were definitely a lot of boss fights that made me want to throw a controller, but it was nice to have a semi-rpg like game that didn't bat an eye to swatting you down even if you grinded a lot. With that being said I haven't really engaged in the Ys fandom, but most classic game heads are usually at least aware of it, I've found. Or I've been hella lucky.

haha your two favorites are the only one I didn't play XD... though I played mostly the recent re-release of the ys serie, mostly all the ones that were released by Xseed on psp and steam. Though I know a new version of the IV is coming to psp vita, but from what I've heard it's not one bit the same as the original xD ! But yeah considering IV and V never released officially in the states I think, would be hard for me to play them unless I find some kind of emulator for them.

I must say my favorite so far is probably the oath in felghana, though after starting a game in Ys Origin, well this one is quite amazing as well haha !

As for boss fight oh yes they are challenging, but the thing is in the ys, it's not about level grinding most of the time, but more about the pattern and the tactic to counter/dodge that pattern and kick the butt of the boss at the good moment haha. But it's what make it AWESOME !

I haven't actually finished an Ys game. /cries But I have Oath in Felghana for my PSP, which started me off on the Ys series and I loved what I've played of it so far (I pretty much rage quit and haven't touched it since XDDD). I also got Ys Origin on Steam and played it for a while too.

The games seem so simple at first glance, but holy shit do they get hard. They really are fun, though, and I'll probably get back to them eventually. XD

haha yeah they are hard ! But once you get used to the system, the dodging reflex comes ! Though with oath in felghana, I passed it and know well most of the boss if you need any help. (At the number of time I re-did some XD)

I remember one of those which gave me the hardest time was some kind of bird way below the temple haha. But I'm glad you also like it =) !!

I forgot which one I tried to play, but I could not get my brain around bumping into monsters to fight them.
