Salut is French for hi. Put that together with Hurricane and you have "Hello Hurricane", which is the name of a Switchfoot album and song I really like. Reflected my great big feels at the time. Plus Salut/Sal for short sounded cooler than Bonjour, haha.

Everybody usually has some kind of reason for naming themselves the way they do on the net. Tell us your story here if you don't mind.

Re: Your Username
Yay, I have a backup of my original reply! ^^

I'll add to that my username on Temp Sibb (i.e. "Xernie8D") was a joke name. I decided to go with a sillier version of my normal username because Temp Sibb was only a temporary forum. That's all.Xernova wrote:My username comes from... totally-nothing-Xeno-related! Hah, didn't see that coming, did you? =P
First of all, my original username was Xerno. So where did that name come from? Well, I wanted a name starting with an "x", but the reason has nothing to do with the Xeno-series. I first used the username Xerno (not on a forum) a couple of months before I had even played Xenogears for the first time. The reason why I wanted it to start with an "x" is just because of what TV tropes would call "rule of cool". Or at least, I think names with an "x" are cool.
Next, I looked up "rare Dutch names" on the internet. I soon found the very rare name "Berno", replaced the "b" with an "x", and tadah! My username Xerno was created.
So why Xernova now? Uh, well, when I tried signing up on PSN with my original username, it turned out Xerno was already taken (or it was too short, not sure), so I made it longer. Turning the "-no" into "-nova" was the first thing which came to mind, so I just changed my username to Xernova then. That's about it.
Most people still call me Xerno. Or Xern.

Re: Your Username
I've been using TheMagician as my alias ever since I first became active in the Official Xenoaga III forums back in 2006.
Why? Well, to be perfectly honest, I never really gave it that much thought. Thinking back, the name was the first thing that hit my mind. I went with it because I felt it sounded good. Since giving myself that moniker though, its been a part of me. I'm not a part of too many forums at all, but if I do happen to inhabit another, I'm TheMagician there too.

Well, I always liked greek stuff and the Omega at Xenosaga, those are the two reasons I picked Omega as nickname.

Mine come from the time I started to online game on Ragnarok Online. I was searching with a friend of mine for a good name and we placed together those two japenese words and I thought it looked pretty cool. Hikari means light and Kuragari means darkness. Which also gave birth to my sentence after it on msn ;
The angel of darkness. I've been using that username ever since !

Teh is a mispelling of The. Rin is short for Rinoa which is a final fantasy character I like a lot. I stuck them together to make a new screen name years ago and I've just been using it since! :3

This is my gaming SN. I use it on Steam and LoL, the two major platforms I ever use anymore.
Before that was a silly name that honestly screamed of ignorance of the Japanese language on my part, and I won't be using again.

Re: Your Username
Katimus, truncated from Katimus Prime, which my best friend from high school's older brother started calling me after we stopped being enemies via "big brother vs. kid sister's best friend" rules of enmity. I am embarrassingly huge on G1 and G2 Transformers, (Bayverse didn't stick on me) so it kinda fit? I don't feel the need to append the Prime these days because people just keep callin' me Katimus and are fine with it. I keep the Prime where Katimus is already taken, though. Before that, I was EK, which stood for El Kat-o, which I ripped off of El Bart-o from the Simpsons. I also did a brief stint on yGallery as dizzy, (off the Apoptygma Berzerk song Spindizzy) but that didn't last very long. ^^

Re: Your Username
"stitchedmoon" came from the way I used to draw things in my angst-ridden teenage years, with this silly forced "quirky" Hot Topic/Tim Burton-knockoff aesthetic where everything was raggedy-looking and clumsily sewn together from scraps, even the moon:
Actually, especially the moon. I'd stick it in the sky in pictures where it didn't even make sense, and it sort of became my nonverbal signature for a whileuntil I decided it was stupid and went back to signing my initials.
Anyway, I registered stitchedmoon as my username when I joined deviantART in 2005, and it kind of got stuck and followed me all over the internet, because it's not already taken on most sites before I get there. tbh I think it's corny and I don't really like it very much anymore, but it's how everyone knows me now, so I guess I can live with it. :3

Re: Your Username
Aaaaah, my username. I've had this one since the days of Xenolegacy. It followed me to Godsibb and just about everywhere else where its not taken (if it is taken, I usually put Empress or Miss in front of it...). I actually found it in a baby book of unusual names. It means, depending on the language, either chemistry or gold or secret. Additionally, depending on the source of the info, it may also be one of the root words of the word alchemy.

Chrono Trigger is one of my favorite games, and Magus is so epic/awesome!
First I tried using "Magus" as a username in some places but it was always taken, so I started trying Zeal and it usually worked, so now I'm used to it.

Re: Your Username
My username is derived from my real name. It's a nickname I've had in real life since middle school (I'm 28, for reference). I've been using Sanna as my online alias since 2001! ...Typing that out makes me feel so old!

Re: Your Username
Glance Reviver is the name of a sword you can find in Valkyrie Profile. In Valkyrie Profile 2, Lenneth comes equipped with this sword by default.
The original name of the sword comes from the fact that when you miss the enemy, it heals you for some amount of HP. A glance is a fencing move. Fencing is too technical for me to keep up with, but I believe this is a move to deflect or disarm the opponent by sliding the blade against theirs. So that's the origin of the name. It has been personal to me because I tend to just barely miss things. In games and in life (lol).

Re: Your Username
Leah is my nickname, as it is a shortened version of my middle name. It's pronounced as Lia or Lee. Seven is my favorite number, so I just tagged on there at the end for simplicity's sake.
That's all there is to it, I must say. Boring, I know, but it's something. ;D

Re: Your Username
going with a nick is a good idea. that's what I should have done in the beginning.
7 is a good number. reminds me of a time when i once lived in an apartment #707 just like the anime ナナ.
i got me name changed thanks to Kat ;p after グノーシス, next character to hit mind was a program from Tron: Uprising that almost got the derez to his head with a flying ident disc

Re: Your Username
My old common username, Morgra, came from an original character I created long ago when I was a wee lass. Lucy Dell/Morgra was the first legit character I ever created, so I used her name for a long time.
Current name, Red, started originally from work; I work at a pizzeria and I'm a small, aggressive redhead, so one of the older guys gave me the nickname the red baroness. I shortened it to simply Red, though on any site larger than like this one I usually need to spice it up a bit because Red is always already taken.

Re: Your Username
When it comes to Xeno-type forums, I use a specific alias. It started out as chibi-sama love on Xenolegacy, because Jr. is called "chibi-sama" in Xenosaga and is my favorite character. Of course, people shortened it to "chibi" because it was easier to type, so that's what I use now. And funnily enough, it's the same amount of letters as my real name and extremely close to my real name to boot. You'd just have to change two letters in it.

I like to name my forum handles off of songs I like. This one is from my favorite Interpol song. I had this album on repeat during the height of my Xenosaga obsession so I found it fitting.

Re: Your Username
Mine came from back when I was registering on XL and I had noooooo clue what to make my name. I threw random cool words into a simple online English to Japanese translator and eventually came up with Shinsei (means divine/divinity or something) and tacked on Uzuki at the end because Jin = XenoHusbando. Eventually I wanted to make it more of my own identity and changed the "last name" to Kakumei because I think I'd been introduced to Revolutionary Girl Utena at that point and was just like LOL DIVINE REVOLUTION THAT SOUNDS COOL.
Then it just kind of stuck. I sometimes alternate between that and Xirena (name of one of my KH OCs).

Re: Your Username
I'd have to explain a horrible pun. My email address starts with "aroweofshale"-- as in, "a row/roll of shale". The part unrelated to the pun would be that for a while I've gone informally by Rowe online because of an old AIM alias I had, which I no longer have access to because I didn't think to back up all my passwords. It was "roweoffplanet" but unless a spambot's taken it over, it's probably dead.
