    BASICS

    Name: Arylett Charnoa
    Age: 22
    Gender: Female
    Race: Human
Occupation: Liaisons Agent, First Jerusalem Recolonization Committee (1JS-R) - One of the go-betweens from First Jerusalem to Scientia’s satellite colony. Checks on the progress of the Recolonization efforts frequently with other Liaisons Agents. Helps to conduct communications between the two. Works for the Chief of Liaisons and carries out their commands. Although there are other Liaisons Agents, she often acts as the Chief’s number two and representative. Also handles Liaisons with a specific Excavation commander)

    APPEARANCE

Build: Short stature at 5’3”, medium weight. Round youthful face (looks more so like a teenager than in her twenties) and petite-looking.
    Skin: Tan.
Eyes: Dark brown, with red glasses.
Hair: Dark blackish curly hair, reaches slightly past shoulder length. Though she tries to keep it neat, the hair is often chaotic-looking with many strands erupting in several directions. Wears a small red flower clip in it.
Outfit: 1JS-R Junior Employee Uniform - Never seen without it. The uniform is basically a reddish sort of color to signify a slightly higher position than a normal grunt, but not as high as a Senior Employee

    BEHAVIOR

Personality: Though her appearance and immensely youthful looks don’t imply it, Arylett is a very serious individual. On the job, you will find no person more competent. This young woman is full of purpose and drive, and is greatly passionate about any project she undertakes. Highly intelligent. She typically is direct and gets to the point when it comes to work, preferring clear communication and orders. Arylett meticulously and carefully coordinates every word, and contemplates a variety of responses that a person could have to it. Her attention to detail in this regard is rather ridiculous. However, it is this skill and immense need for such clear communication that makes her the perfect candidate for a Liaison Agent, and it shows with how much trust her superior puts in her.

However, there are several obvious chinks in that armor. Though Arylett is quite serious, she is also very flighty and scatter-brained, and is often governed by whatever emotion or interest she happens to have at the moment. She tries her best to hide that impulsive side of herself, but it still causes her to make questionable life decisions on more than one occasion. This is because she’s not very good at planning ahead. Yet she has a constantly improvising creative mind brimming with ideas. To sum it up: She knows where to go, but she has no idea how to get there.

In non-work related matters as well, she is typically quiet and withdrawn, and tends to respond to her co-worker’s attempts to pull her into their casual talkings in a very awkward fashion.  This is due to several events in her past. She displays a lack of confidence and shyness when it involves anything that isn’t “within the script.” Which is to say, anything that doesn’t follow her typical work routine. Sudden changes and spontaneity are things that she has no idea how to respond to, and startle her greatly.

She’s much better at communicating through writing rather than through speaking as well. And though she can appear very well-written in her articles over the U.S.N., meeting her in person causes a large disconnect due to her awkward non-work behavior. Her sentences are not strung together in the most eloquent of ways.

This young lady is also very emotional, sensitive, and moderately unstable. She can be easily offended/hurt by the slightest statement, though she tries to hide this trait from those she doesn’t know well. This often doesn’t work, as it is easy to tell when she is upset due to how expressive she is. In short, she tries to put up a facade that is mildly successful at best. It’s quite easy to see through her to her fragile core.

In spite of these anxiety remnants, she can be quite calm and even grounded when others lose their heads. Her emotions often shift to compensate for how others are feeling. In a dangerous situation, she is often the first to react and try to get to safety.

How You Ended Up Here: Arylett’s penchant for communication and immense skill of writing over the U.S.N. caught the attention of scouts from the First Jerusalem Satellite colony. They were looking for candidates for a newly open Liaison Agent position and were impressed by someone who seemed so well-spoken. Though the interview was rather nerve-wracking and involved quite a few of Arylett’s awkward blunders, they decided that the potential in her was too great to pass up, and gave her the position. She took it reluctantly at the age of 20, never having had a job before. but wanting to prove to her faithless family that she could. It was going to be scary and new, but at least it would get her away from them, and force her to overcome her fears.

Two years of practice and having a persistent schedule and script to follow changes a person, and made her more confident and competent - but only in that aspect of her life. As time went on and she got better and better, she was entrusted with more responsibilities than other Liaisons Agents. Though she is primarily a Liaison for Recolonization, due to her serious attitude towards her work, she was also given the task of being a Liaison to a specific Excavation Commander who is unable to handle the lack of focus of most Liaison Agents.

She finds herself enjoying the job, but still wishes to pursue her true passion of art. Not that any of her co-workers would actually believe her job isn’t her true passion - her humorless attitude often has others convinced that she’s a workaholic. Currently, she’s about to do yet another routine check-up on First Jerusalem’s Recolonization and Excavation efforts.

History: Born on Fifth Jerusalem (on year T.C. 4761)  to parents she’d rather not talk about, Arylett was a child of a bizarre age of transition. The first seven years of her life were essentially completely different from the rest. This is because of the events now titled as the U.M.N. Shutdown. (End of Xenosaga III) Her childhood was somewhat dysfunctional; she was surrounded by an overprotective mother who would constantly put her down and make her feel like she could accomplish nothing, and a distant father. As a result of this, she kept a careful distance away from them and buried herself in the U.M.N. and her burgeoning talent for artwork at the young age of five.  For about two years, this worked decently for her. She quickly learned the culture of the U.M.N. and made some friends with rather… insidious individuals. Her family had no protective measures installed for her usage and were largely unaware of what exactly their daughter was doing due to being traditional and largely ignorant of the U.M.N.

These “friends” actually turned out to be hackers and comforted the very timid and unconfident girl in her times of need. They allowed her to get close to them, to confide and trust in them. Several days before the U.M.N. Shutdown, they convinced her to allow them access into her Encephalon, with the promise that they would remove her fears and replace it with confidence and smiles. At first, being very cautious, she argued against the thought of artificial intervention to remove her fears. But the thoughts were too tempting to dismiss. To be able to stand up away from her family and prove herself? To feel… good and happy? And these friends of hers, which she trusted very much… the only people that gave her a reason to live. She couldn’t pass that up.

The hackers took a dive into her mind right as several planets were being engulfed by the waves being emitted from Abel’s Ark (Xenosaga III, after they leave Shion’s Encephalon), causing them to disappear one by one. These waves caused the planet the hackers were on to be consumed into Imaginary Space, and the connection between them and Arylett’s Encephalon was cut very abruptly. Such caused unforseeable effects. Her brain patterns immediately become erratic and unstable. Immense fear, hallucinations, and emotions overwhelmed her. The remnant feelings of the hackers in particular were strong; at first, the malicious excitement that they had tricked her, being quickly replaced the indescribable fear of their bodies being consumed into Imaginary Space. She was stuck in a state of emotional shock and trauma for several hours until she passed out.

When she finally awoke, it had been a year later, and she had been left in a facility on Fifth Jerusalem which proclaimed her to have been in a coma that would most likely be lifelong. Arylett had missed all of the events of the U.M.N. Shutdown and its sudden aftermath. From that point on, she would never be quite the same.

It took her a while to adjust, and things only became worse. Her family’s response to this was to scold her for trusting the U.M.N., constantly reminding her of her stupid mistake, and then to smother her with their overprotectiveness. “Friends” were lost, and she had now been burdened by the knowledge that somewhere in the back of her mind, they were up to no good with motives that she would never find out. Not only that, but her only sanctuary had been torn away from her. The U.M.N. was gone and having no other coping mechanism, she soon sank to the lowest depths of depression.

Yet she soon discovered the U.M.N.’s replacement - the prototype U.S.N. - through a technology shop which had been giving the public demonstrations of its capabilities, superiority, safety over the U.M.N. Though cautious about the U.M.N., her parents were also never ones to learn from past mistakes, and were eventually worn down by their daughter and a very persistent salesman to be one of the first subscribers of the service.

From then on, she considers her “true” life to have begun. A rebirth. Arylett became a very avid user of the fledgling U.S.N. and tried to find new friends to fill in the hole within her heart. Though much safer than the U.M.N., she was still met with disappointment. Those who she encountered were typically far older than her, intensely ambitious and driven, and not willing to waste their time with frivolous friendships. They were cold and distant people who she considered to be the best friends she had ever had, and yet they themselves didn’t care so much for her. It was a very common occurrence that she would drive them away with her clinginess and cause them to callously reject her.

Filled with so much heartbreak and sadness over the years, she eventually found herself trying to become like these people. She had always looked up to them, their cool and collected stoicness, and was ashamed of her own emotions. They were so smart and competent, not like her. Arylett forced herself into that mold. Or tried to, anyway.

She gradually began to display a more confident persona over the U.S.N., writing lengthy articles to express herself and relieve herself of her feelings, showing yet another burgeoning talent. At that point, she had made an effort to not socialize with any others on a deeper level. Due to this, she never quite learned actual social skills and became the awkward, somewhat fragmented and unstable person she is today.

Family: Molly Charnoa (Mother), Teresk Charnoa (Father).

    Relationships

    • Lunaris Adamantine - Co-Worker. She is the only Liaisons Agent who he is able to work with properly, due to the way this Realian was constructed. They interact frequently, and she doesn’t really know what to think of him. At the moment, she has no real opinion of him, except that she finds his abilities to be kind of creepy and disturbing.

    BATTLE

Focus: Ether, preference for Beam and Fire. Also a supporter/healer.

Weapon(s): O.C.C.D. MK2400C (Known to her as Aethel.) - This is a special customized model that was given to Arylett as a reward for doing good work and so that she could defend herself better against Gnosis attacks that she was previously helpless against. O.C.C.D. stands for Omni Communicative and Combat Device, emphasizing its two functions of Communication and Combat.

It comes in two parts - a special sleek red neckband with flashing blue and purple LEDs and a stylus. The necklace is capable of projecting a touchscreen called the spellpad which the stylus is able to interact with. It is capable of multiple functions, including access to the U.S.N., which is known as its Communicative function. Her other primary usages of it includes writing notes for her job and creating artwork in her spare time. The stylus is stored within a special slot of the necklace when not in use.

Though the Combat function is rarely used, it is still generally reliable in a fight, particularly because it has been tailored specifically to Arylett’s style. With the stylus, she can draw special symbols and convert them into Ether-based techniques. Further, the spellbad can be used to shield her upper body from harm. If she wants to get a little more close up and personal, however, she can take the spellpad and convert it to Physical Mode. In this mode, it becomes a semi-solid block that is attached to her wrist. Her stylus can be attached to the screen in this mode, and used as a bladetype weapon. She doesn’t really know how to make use of this mode yet though, so she mostly sticks to a safer far range.

    Tech/Ether:

    • Aethel Burst (1 Enemy, Ranged, Beam) - A special attack of Arylett’s, considered her signature and most used. She draws a special symbol she created on her spellpad, as the LEDs on her necklace glow, and she unleashes a huge burst of crimson energy at the enemy.

    • Spell Storm (Multiple Enemies, Ranged, Fire) - She draws several stars on her spellpad, which go through it and unleash an orange and purple starshower at all opponents. Not as powerful as Aethel Burst, due to sacrificing power for spread.

    • Medica (1 Ally, Healing) - She draws a circular pattern on her spellpad, which gathers up a host of nanomachines, and directs them at anyone who needs to be healed.
