I love me some Game of Thrones. Started reading the books about 10 years ago, and I'm really happy about it being a live action series. HBO doesn't have everything perfect (Targaryen eyes not being purple, dark eyebrows, same with Lannister eyebrows) but it's still cool.

I love Game of Thrones! I've never read any of the books, but I've seen the show and it's really great.

I was partway through the series when it was announced that they'd be making a show, and I never actually started watching the show until my roommate got me to watch it around this past Christmas time. I think they did a good job, considering how much content is in the books. As Kat said, it isn't perfect, but I don't think anyone was really expecting it to be. XD I actually remember when they were revealing the cast how many people were saying it was going to fail.

I haven't read the books, though I did start the first one. However, I have watched the entire first season and the first part of the second. Regardless, I couldn't finish the book because it depressed me so much and the show, more or less, does the same. This show has awesome plot and characters--that's just something I cannot deny. Yet, it also consists of all of the darker things of mankind as a whole--lies, betrayal, adultery, murder, etc.--and seeing all of that in one show bundled up really does depress me. If I watch the show, I have to take long breaks between the episodes, because if I don't, I'll stay depressed and it's just really not healthy for me.
I'm not sure why it affects me so easily, as most shows and films do not (but there are some exceptions, such as "The Pursuit of Happyness"), but I am just taking the show a few days at a time so that I can get through it in order to learn what happens next. It is definitely interesting enough to keep watching, despite how saddening it is for me, and I also have to say that I LOVE the music in it--especially the theme song. =)

I can understand what you mean, Leah, there's a lot of awful stuff that happens. But then when some people get what's coming to them it feels even sweeter. >D

Game of Thrones is a parade of blood, violence and sadness, but the show is just so well put together and the story flows so well that I can't stop for some reason.
However, I have been sad about

this super happy music starting playing and it was so inappropriate. XDDD I mean, I knew what was gonna happen, but my roommates didn't and none of us could take it seriously. XD
Oh man, yeah, that threw me off, too. I didn't know how to feel about that.
Also not sure how I feel about what they're doing with
- Spoiler:
- The Night's Watch - what with Mormont getting killed and all.
I really love what they've been doing with
- Spoiler:
- Daenerys. Because.

I love the show. I don't have time to read the books in full, but the GoT series is one of my favorite things on TV right now.
Season 3 is my favorite so far and now that they've gotten all the set-up from the second half out of the way, we're gonna start seeing some major shit go down.

- Yeah, that's how it happened in the books more or less - an unglorified death via food riot.

Just gonna say: next episode is the one I've been waiting for since they announced they'd be making a show about this series. I cannot wait to see how they execute it.
I'll be okay if they do do that, as long as they don't do the throat thing. D= I get squeamish enough just reading her parts in the books.

My husband hates that character and thinks that that is an improvement, but I tend to disagree.
- Spoiler:
- Maybe if they're not so openly graphic with it, it'd be cool. They didn't cut Tyrion's nose all the way off or completely shave Dany's hair either. I'm more upset about Dany's hair, tho. But Cat Stark is someone I used to identify with on principle in books 1-2 because MY house sigil is a fish. She is really crazy, tho. But not as crazy as her sister or just about every other female character in the series.

- Well, the Rains of Castamere have played and there are even more dead bodies than in the books.
The fall of House Stark. Tragic.

Neo, did you read the books?
- Spoiler:
- I don't know a whole lot of people it was still a surprise to firsthand.
After the Red Wedding, technically House Stark is comprised of Arya, Sansa and Bran, but yeah, all the adults are gone. :/

I love game of thrones! The HBO series is fantastic....If you want to really be engrossed in the epic tale that is A Song of Ice and Fire, pick up the books! Just be sure to pace yourself so you're not waiting for Martin to publish the last 2 in the series like the rest of us have been.

^ OMG, my husband just showed me that the other day. |333
Despite having failed in two separate attempts to read the books (goldfish attention span strikes again--though I seem to do better with audiobooks these days, and I've been meaning to steal those from the husband, who has all of them) and only half-watching the series up to now and getting cliffs notes via second-hand fandom osmosis and the fact that it's pretty much in the pop-cultural atmosphere now ... Iiiiiiiii may have taken an abrupt interest in this season and started actually making a point of watching it for exactly two reasons (at least one of which is Gwendoline Christie, whom I really should have been watching it for all along *heart eyes*).
Um, but yeah, I am basically the worst and terrible because I only half know what's going on at any given moment, also I have a tendency to watch it while drunk. :P I heard some fans are unhappy with the way it's deviating from the books and the way they're kind of treating characters badly for shock value or whatever, but I don't really have the 2 cents to contribute to that discussion because I've kind of spent the last few years anxiously avoiding it.
Anyway, I hope I haven't missed the hype boat entirely. I am interest.

- The thing is, to be honest, I used to feel insecure about popular fantasy series like GoT because I would compare it to my own writing and worry that everyone else would, too. I don't kill off nearly enough characters to aspire to GRRRRRRRRM's level of "not even remotely messing around," tho.
