Hmm, today I got some writing done and made almond bark. :B Was a pretty nice day in general, though.

The highlight of my day was when I heard back from a writing job I applied for several weeks ago. Of course, they are requesting writing examples, so I'm freaking out because I feel like all of the things I could give them are crap. @_@

^ Oh plz gurl u write fine, if not great. The last thing you want to do is down talk your own work. I mean overconfidence is bad too, but so is downgrading yourself and disguising it as modesty. Jintoki"

The highlight of my day was that I spent time with friends and family. That and I finally submitted some writing samples for that job, so the weight has been lifted.

After coming back from an anime convention, what made my day was hearing back about a job interview. I know I should stop being so optimistic, but I couldn't help being excited.

For me even after some particularly stupid shit going down, my highlight was dreaming up interesting ways to murder people I don't like with my favourite person.

Re: The Highlight of Your Day
Had a rather eventful evening a couple of days back:
One of the storm drains servicing our stairwell in the apratment building I live in got clogged up by one of the repair workers this summer (sloppy work, really). On that particular evening it was raining much harder then usual. So the water on the roof got high enough to reach the very-much-not airtight hatch and all floors from top to bottom got a nice shower of murky water. It wasn't enough to do much more then go up to people's thresholds - nothing a half an hour with mops couldn't fix - but the elevator shaft was a waterfall and quite a bit of water have gotten in all kinds of gaps and crevices (and seeped down pipes and gaps between floor, ruining everyone's paintjobs). So potential fire hazard for everyone.
Fun times.

But that's not the actual reason I'm posting this here.

Yesterday evening I was playing Firefall with a guy I know. We were talking about the visual style of the game. In-between the usual "
ow, that must really chafe"
and "
that's almost-but-not-quite a goddrat catsuit and you know it"
comments on character design, I've remarked how the general look and abilities of the exoskeletons all the classes have reminded me of Megaman. "
Really, give us some proper armcannons and we will be set."
A little bit after that we've said our goodbyes and logged off. For some reason I've remembered that the one and only Megaman game I've actually played was Megaman X3 (which I sucked horribly at;
might be the reason I haven't played any other of those).Then I remembered that I've looked up speedruns of a bunch of classic Megaman games and their soundtrack on youtube. "
What the hell,"
I thought to myself, "
might as well hit TVTropes and search for the correct name of the thing before I go to sleep."
If you know how 'a little quick stroll before sleep' on TVTropes can turn out, you should have an idea about what usually happens in such cases. Surprisingly enough, it wasn't the dreaded wikiwalk that got me though. It was the short backstory and plot summary.

A very free-form retelling of relevant parts of that short summary in case you don't know already:
After the numerous shenanigans certain individuals (*cough*DoctorWily*cough*) got up to when it came to creating AI during the old Megaman game series, humanity decided to put all this sentient machine business as a whole on a backburner. Doctor Light (another major talent in creation of all things AI) thought the potential applications of what he and his peers in the field have worked their butts off were too good to just stop the development completely for an unknown period of time.
He did however recognize the risks of a sophisticated AI deciding humans are so last century, so he set up a thorough testing procedure: his newest creation, the sum of the work of his life was to undergo testing on good ol' Asimov's Laws for no less than 30 years. Since he was of quite advanced age by that point, the good doctor assumed he would not live long enough to see the fruits of his labour and set up the whole shingamajig to operate autonomously, sealed it and left a message on the outer shell saying what it was and why it wasn't to be disturbed earlier than it was supposed to.
Oh, and the AI was supposed to be housed in an android (who just happened to be perfectly adaptable into killing things deader than dead by the boatload).
Fast-forward a hundred or so years into the future. This time capsule gets finally found by someone that knows a thing or two about creating AI. The dude had enough knowledge to know just how awesome his discovery was, but not quite enough to puzzle out all of the intricacies of the machine he'd unearthed. Ergo, after a time certain... irregularities in behaviour of the mass-produced versions of this technological marvel became to pop up.
What follows is a series-long struggle to avoid a Skynet scenario with the Doctor Light's awakened creation as the lead character. On the way it is discovered that even if there are flaws aplenty in both software and hardware architecture present in the following generations of AI, by themselves they are not nearly enough to cause the 'murder death kill' degradation on nearly as wide scale as they are facing. There may be viruses specifically devised to target the vulnerabilties in the design at work...

- Spoiler:
- ######################################################
[Megaman X design][looks kinda like the '
cyborg'
team member from Shining Force I (
before promotion)
when out of his combat equipment - unprportionally large head to a skinny and not entirely human-looking body][which is usually shelved when not needed because it is a power hog][energy crises are a thing there]
[a viable explanation for what happened on Earth for it to become Lost Jerusalem][Deus being affected by a '
Skynet'
scenario as in Megaman X series][thus KOS-MOS getting stranded on Earth'
s orbit may end up... /interesting/]
[comparable replacements are gonna be next to impossible to procure though;
Earth may not even have the required elements in it;
the language could be taught;
the main question remains is how she'
s gonna turn on at all in that premise?][that energy converter thingy of hers is gonna work overtime it looks like][she ain'
t gonna have a workable moving platform for a while too][on the other hand, KOS-MOS assuming direct control of an appropriately destruction-capable (
big guns are a must, I think)
facility, mecha or ship could be explored][some appropriately dramatic irony for Maria to finally manifest but get deprived of even remotely human-looking body right after could be worked in if her characterisation from the end of Ep. III would be taken as the basis]
[Xeno crossovers go!]
[add Firefall'
s anomalies and alien wildlife to the mix][the apocalypse event in there was even tied to testing a jump-drive prototype working on some kind of parallel dimension trickery for deep space exploration too, ftw!][might as well throw in abilities and weapons]

POST REVIVAL YESSS.
One of the highlights of my day was going to the grocery store and seeing a doge that looked EXACTLY like the golden retriever we had when I was younger. I mean, like, same coat and nose color and everything (and our dog was kind of unusual-looking for a golden retriever). I had to stop and go "
awwwwww,"
and then the owner let me say hi and pet the doggieeeee~ :3c

Re: The Highlight of Your Day
I've been rather depressed about how XenoSeasons I had no responses and I am partially ashamed I didn't get to pimp it as I wanted to due to academia kicking me really hard in the nards this year.
But this made it worth it.
