Popular demand creates tons of fan art of a few characters, which is exactly like how centuries ago church patrons payed for masterpieces that all showed the same religious figures- what was most wanted was made. Old master painters almost exclusively illustrated popular stories and religious scenes. This puts the whole fan art genre into a new view for me.

Overall, there is slightly less of 'Xenosaga = KOSMOS' attitude in the artists there, which is good.On the other hand, it also had a full frontal of Kevin uncovered by the grey brick (

^ It might sound kind of grandiose, but I actually do think there are a lot of similarities between fanart/fandom in general and religion (or mythology). There is kind of a devotional feeling about it sometimes. Also it can lead to drama on the order of religious fervor (holy ship wars?), and fanaticism and generally bad behavior. :P
(... Actually, now that I think of it, isn't the word "
fan"
itself derived from "
fanatic"
