    Thoughts after finishing the games

Post by FishyFish_RU on Mon Jun 20, 2016 2:44 am

    1) The ending was nasty to my favorite characters

I'm a bit bitter about the ending. Out of my four favorite characters of the game, two died (chaos, Wilhelm), one is ill and going to die soon (Shion), and the fourth is U-DO, so fortunately nothing happened to it... But it went into a Fey child clone, which was just weird.

    2) Wilhelm is THE BEST, our party is stupid

Besides, I found that I support Wilhelm. He had a perfectly safe way to deal with the collapse, no matter how bad it was. And because the consciousness of the human being could evolve from one recurrence to another, it could be reasoned that some day a good solution will be found. All that was needed was to wait... for as long as it would take.

On that note, Wilhelm himself wasn't idle and was searching for alternative solutions, I'm sure. He had millenia (!) to investigate the alternatives. And if he hadn't found them, then it's very likely there were no equally safe alternatives at that point in time. Yet our guys decided outright in one minute of thinking that they know better... Now they will be responsible for the end of the world later...

I wish we had a choice of two endings, like in Western RPGs: support or oppose Wilhelm. I just can't agree with the choice that the game tells me should be right.

    3) chaos... WTF?

And I don't get chaos anymore. Did he know what was going on all this time? Something tells me that he did. When he and Nephilim discussed Shion, it sounded like they knew that she summoned the Gnosis in the past. Then why didn't he do anything to prevent it once they were in the past? If that couldn't be prevented, then at least he could prevent Shion from summoning the Abel's Arc in addition! This makes no sense. Especially after he announced to Wilhelm at the end of Xeno2 that he won't hold back anymore. Right... he did nothing but being a passive observer. Maybe he came to his senses and decided to secretly support Wilhelm or something?  tongue Because, you know, sometimes silence is like a lie. A lot could've changed if he informed the others about everything that he knew. So what happened? It sounds to me like chaos was set up to play a bigger role in the story, but then his content was almost entirely cut out (maybe while resizing the games from 6 to 3).

If anyone's willing to comment on my thoughts (especially the third), I'd be happy I love you

^ Yeah, it definitely seemed like chaos should have had more of a prominent role instead of just being relegated to a passive observer most of the time.  I think a lot of the abruptness and hanging plot threads about the ending had to do with the original plan for 6 episodes getting cut down to 3 and the changes in staff/writers between installments.  As I believe Neosmith mentioned in his retrospective, it seemed as though a lot of major plot points were changed due to creative differences after Episode 1, and a lot of the important exposition got crammed in as an afterthought, i.e. as a footnote in the Ep 3 database or something.  (It's kind of annoying how they spent more time on fan service in Ep 3 than on the actual burning questions that were central to the plot, but that's another pet peeve entirely. XD )  chaos was a really interesting character and one of my favorites in Episode 1, and I'm bummed they didn't do much with him after that.

Oh jeez I agree with that so much! I hate fanservice in these games, it just attracts the kind of audience that can lust after an unreal character just b\c she's dressed in a sexist way. Maybe I'm quick to judge, but I always think that people who post hentai pictures of KOS-MOS can't be good people. They look at a character and all they see is a piece of meat. Or metal, in this case... Smile

But KOS-MOS is another annoyance for me overall. I started to dislike her from Ep I, she had no personality and was basically nothing more than a walking fanservice. Then I realized that somehow she, not Shion, is a symbol of the game, and I just couldn't wrap my mind around it! It was a bad trick to attract the worst audiences. Maybe the game would fare better if they attracted the right kind of audience, i.e. people who care for characters in a different way and can appreciate the story.

I think he received enough attention in Ep2, as well, but in Ep3 he felt totally ignored to me. He didn't even display any compassionate behavior any longer, e.g. when someone would be crying or breaking down, he wouldn't lift a finger to comfort them. And in ep3 in particular Shion was breaking down a lot, so it was a big change from ep1 when he'd comfort anybody to not caring.
And the fact that he knew everything and didn't tell anybody was just wrong.

OMG I've never seen such a funny smiley: rabbit

Yeah, KOS-MOS' overall design(s) didn't bother me so much personally (I actually kinda like it, esp. her Episode 1 looks), and I don't dislike her as a character, but I do sort of resent how she's the only Xenosaga character (well, her and T-elos) who get any recognition outside a fairly small fandom (and even within it).  And I hate how she gets objectified by ~fanboys~, and all the horrible "ANATOMY DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT EVEN ON ANDROIDS!!" porn of her that looks like it was drawn by someone who's barely even familiar with the games.  And the fact that like 99% of Xenosaga merchandise is just her or T-elos (I have, like, one of the maybe two or three MOMO figures that I know of), etc., etc..

I mean, on the one hand I'm glad she became such an iconic character despite the relative obscurity of Xenosaga itself.  But I'm still kinda salty that she's, like, the ONLY thing people know about Xenosaga and that she's reduced to a sex symbol and fan service instead of the more complex and significant character that she is. /rant
