Twi's Pixel Art

I've recently taken up doing pixel art and I figured I'd make a thread for it! So far I have just the one finished piece, my crystal cave that I've been working on.



I also have a space one that I started as a doodle.



All art here that is used on HabitRPG belongs to HRPG and falls under this licence.

Those are so cool! I really love how the crystal cave turned out, and the space background is looking great too. :>

I like the color contrast between the purple sky and the stars and foreground.

I've started working on my next background for HabitRPG and it's still in its very early stages. This one is supposed to be sunset themed! Now, the trees are bothering me, but I'm not really sure what to do about them. I would really like to have trees there to make it interesting but idk how to make them small and still look like trees...

I think simple one like now is nice, just give nice shading at sky and hill like you did in cave and it will be great.

I looked at backgrounds that are set to be released in the future and there already was one with mountains and trees and stuff, so I got grumpy and changed mine. XD I've decided I'm gonna put a lot of emphasis on the sun and sky instead.

Thank you, Stitch! People on HRPG are telling me I should de-saturate it a bit, which makes me kinda sad but it might overpower our avatars I guess. They also want me to do something about the clouds but I'm gonna have to think on that one a bit.

Aw, that's a bummer about having to desaturate it, but it still looks awesome!  The only thing about the clouds is that the one in the top right corner seems a little distracting or too far out of the frame?  One thing you could try doing is maybe have them interact with the light a bit more, something like this (forgive my terrible 5-minute non-pixel GIMP scribble edit):



Not sure if that'd be too bright, though?  (And also instead of purple you could use the darker red of the clouds from the earlier versions, which might blend in better than what I did. ^^;)

I see you painted new layers in "normal" brush way. I always wonder about pixel art, how you turn it into pixel look?

The way you have to do it for HabitRPG is start by making it this size:



You have to zoom in really close and make it one pixel at a time. Then, you enlarge it by 300%, so each pixel is actually 3x3 and you get something that looks like this:



What stitch did, I think, is just draw on the enlarged image so that's why it looks like it was brushed on.

Yeah, I just scribbled in really quickly instead of doing it at the same resolution as your background. ^^;

Here is my next project, an iceberg background:



I absolutely love how the water turned out, but it looks so nice that to me the icebergs look flat. So, time to work on the icebergs some more.
